In 2015 we applied to be designated as a Centre Of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynaecology (COEMIG).
The designation to become a COEMIG Unit was awarded after a visit from an international auditor. This was from one of the most respected surgical consumer protection organizations in the world namely the SURGICAL REVIEW CORPORATION (www.surgicalreview.org). This body was subcontracted by the largest and most prestigious organization of its type the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF GYNAECOLOGICAL LAPAROSCOPISTS (www.aagl.org).
As part of this designation we commit to report on our surgical outcomes.
WA GynaeScope was founded in 2013 with the aim of providing excellent care to patients with gynaecological needs and promoting minimally invasive gynaecological surgery.
We carry out more than 300 minimally invasive procedures every year. These procedures range from straightforward procedures such as endometrial ablation to the more complex operations such as laparoscopic total hysterectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy and laparoscopic resection of severe cases of endometriosis.
Minimal-access or minimally invasive gynaecological surgery involves operating through much smaller incisions, resulting in less pain and a faster recovery time for patients.
It is performed using high-definition imaging systems to minimize the trauma of surgical exposure, and is a rapidly expanding branch of surgery.
In gynaecological practice, minimal access surgery is usually done by access to the body cavity via laparoscopy, hysteroscopy or cystoscopy.
Advantages of "key hole" surgery include:
Less post-operative pain and wound complications
Less incidence of wound problems
More precise visualisation of the anatomy
Reduced blood loss
Shorter hospital stay
It facilitates gentler handling of tissue
Minimally invasive surgery has fundamentally changed surgery and has been adopted worldwide. With rapidly expanding expertise, minimally invasive surgery will likely replace open surgery in the future.
At WA GynaeScope we strive to offer the highest-quality minimal access gynaecological surgery to our patients.
